About Me

Ruth Tillyard Artist

As an artist I feel very young!  I returned to study in my mid-50's and graduated in 2012 with a BA Hons (First Class) in Visual Arts from Leeds Met University.

I produce paintings and prints, and find that the freedom of the first counterbalances the controlled nature of the latter.  Latterly I have specialised in Lino Prints.  Each  print is produced in multiples in related colours, so the effect comes from the group as well as the individual print.

I admire the work of 20th century artists like Elizabeth Blackadder, Barbara Rae and John Piper for their paintings and prints;  in my Degree Show work I was particularly inspired by American artist Charles Sheeler.

My preferred subject matter is places that I like or love, that are around me in my daily life.  I have a keen interest in my surroundings and feel fortunate that I live in an area with interesting buildings and beautiful nature that I can appreciate and record.

Most of the works on this site are for sale;  I am also able to work to commission and lead workshops.  I am interested in helping people find their own artistic "voice".
